Mural by Hector Ponce off 7th street one block west of Alvarado in Los Angeles - - a primarily working class and working poor latino neighborhood adjacent to the downtown high rises. The title of the mural translated to English is "The Last Kiss." It seems a particularly poignant post as the U.S. withdraws from Iraq leaving so many dead behind.
This neighborhood is full of immigrants. Legal immigrants can serve in the military but receive no guarantee of U.S. citizenship while in the military or when leaving. They also do not receive any guarantee that their visa for U.S. residence will be extended. As a result, serving military can have their families deported while they are in service. The military, to my knowledge, does not provide them with free legal services for these issues.
