Feature: Hocus PocusWhen I think of halloween the movie Hocus Pocus always comes to mind. It's such a classic I can't imagine going a year without watching it. It also happens to be one of `shuttermonkey's favourite movies of all time, seeing that he was born on Halloween. We've decided to watch it a little early this year so we can get some other great spooky themed movies in every week up to his birthday. I've decided to do a feature for each movie so bear with me, or be on the look out for more journals featuring artwork based on some amazing movies!

Colin Hutton: Master of Macro Insect PhotographyWe see bugs every day, but we never really take a moment to take a closer look.
The other day I came across Colin Hutton on deviantART, a remarkably talented photographer specializing in "high magnification macro photography of insects and other small creatures." His work is absolutely stunning. The colors, contrasts, and backdrops behind his subjects are simply amazing.

With so much loveHello everyone! I'd like to share a very important feature that is very close to my heart :heart: 
I started this collection last year I think but due to uncertain circumstances, I was not able to update the collection on a regular basis, which led me to the hiatus for the collection. But a few months back, I think earlier this year, I saw an artwork that made me think that I should go back and make my collection grow. 
DeviantArt, being the world's largest online art community, is definitely a place where you can see lots of amazing artworks. You can see how each one grows from being a seedling into a full grown artist. In case you missed, this is a personal journal that I shared months ago: A Whirlpool of Experiences and Humble Beginnings. This is a personal sharing on how DeviantART has helped me to where I am now as a person and as an artist.

Charity: Water Starts the Process for the Well!I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in the charity: water project I wrote about in February of this year. Whether you were able to actively donate to, read up on, or help spread the word about this honorable cause, I genuinely felt touched by the actions of every person who took the time to participate.
I got so many inspiring and heart-warming Notes from deviants far and wide -- from those who had just donated to those who had no means to donate monetarily but who happily spread the word to others. Many even selflessly pledged their own birthdays, asking for donations to this great cause in lieu of gifts. In a world where a lot of the news headlines are depressing and bleak, my faith in the power of good and caring was restored by the deviantART community.
Some say that one should participate in charity for charity's sake, and I fully believe this.
Colours Vol. Two:iconmiontre: Welcome to the second Colours journal feature! :) Please consider adding the feature to your :+fav: to support the artists featured and the time I spent compiling it.
During August, the first #FeedbackFrenzy came to a close - over 160 participants and 40 teams wrote almost 2,000 critiques. I was blown away by the effort everyone put in, and the size the contest came to!! I am so honoured to have been involved of the organisation and coordination of such an event :D

In a world where everything seems to have been already created and where originality seems to be more and more scarse, once in a while I stumble upon artists who have that... something, that spark of freshness which makes you stop from browsing and check the rest of their galleries. I think these artists deserve more recognition for the originality of their work and so in this occasion I present you what I consider three of these artists. As usual, ladies first....

*Nadiezda: A little cartoony, a like like anime except that not really.
I love the colorfulness of *Nadiezda's style, combined with a very stylized and dynamic presentation, full of textures and different forms.

Colours Vol. One:iconwildrune11: This skin was deeply inspired by the skins $marioluevanos creates. I like the ways he uses colour and line in his designs. I made and discarded three journal skins while I was trying to come up with a design for this series, and when I had the idea to create a simple but attractive skin like his, I started work on a fourth skin (not knowing yet if I would use it or not). The first thing I did was create a colour palette at colorschemedesigner.com - a simple but powerful colour palette creation tool I recently discovered. As I started creating my skin and applying the colours I had selected, I realised what I would call my feature series - "Colours". The word "colours" can mean many things, and some of these meanings are things I want to achieve in my features.
So, "Colours" will be a journal feature series run by me! :)

Shepard Fairey - - CRIMINAL.Shepard Fairey, the artist responsible for the Obama "Hope" poster that contributed so importantly to Obama achieving the presidency of the United States four years ago, plead guilty today to criminal contempt in charges that came from his manipulating evidence in a lawsuit brought against him for using an AP photograph as a reference for the "Hope" poster.  Shepard Fairey was sentenced to two years of probation and 300 hours of community service.
 
Shepard Fairey has been a special friend to deviantART.  He contributed another one of his famous posters for marriage equality to a contest we held, "Love Unites," that encouraged deviants to remix his poster.  He very generously gave us a layered file with all of the poster's elements.  The results were spectacul

Great collection! I suppose in reality it isn't as homely as you make it seem by your composition, right? It has a very friendly atmo to it. like a meeting place, a place for conversation. (Though I have to say the "dollar-child" kinda pops out of this, but I suppose this is on purpose...)
